I don’t know why it never happened in the past, but I know that the folks currently in RIPTA’s planning department are working on improving signage.

Historically RIPTA hasn’t had the budget to do more than the bare minimum, and it shows in the meager level of service they run. RIPTA could be so much better than it is, but we need the state government to provide the funding to make it happen. If this is something you care about, talk to your state reps about it.

Fortunately our august Senate President Ruggerio is trying to jettison RIPTA under RIDOT, and then you won't have to worry about this problem since there won't be any more buses.

It's shitty yes but you get used to it, also use the transit app just to save on headache

Damn it's been a while since I took the bus. When I was in highschool, there were bus schedules that displayed which busses went through that stop at every stop that had bench/enclosure. But that is getting close to 20 years ago now.

I rode buses every day for 4 years in high school. 2 a day plus a 10 minute walk both ways. Then rode the 66 to URI 4 times a week, 2 buses/20 minute walk. 1.5hrs total each way assuming I don’t miss any buses

RIPTA is OK but anyone who thinks we don’t need to SERIOUSLY overhaul the system has never depended on the buses. It’s nice to have buses when there are no other options. But the shitty drivers, buses running early/late, homeless/crazy people, disgustingly dirty stops/buses (once saw a man urinate into a bottle in the back corner and it spilled everywhere) all make it an unpleasant experience. We need light rail or some kind of fixed car system.

move Kennedy plaza, it’s a huge eye sore downtown. It basically makes downtown into a homeless encampment instead of a city center. Put at least 1 light rail line like how they proposed from Pawtucket through downtown. The park is gross too, it’s too small anyways they should just bulldoze it and rebuild it or sell the land.

Because then the signs need to be updated every time there’s a service change? Or someone would be posting:

>Why do bus stops list buses that dont stop there?

>Is RIPTA just being an a-hole? Wouldn't even need larger signs

Every city I have ever lived in listed the buses and where they went. Whenever they did a service change, which honestly don't happen that often in terms of stops being taken off a route or a bus line being cancelled, they would put a sticker over it.

Before the app, there were (and possibly could still exist) transit maps you could get at convenience stores and gas stations for free. Then they went online and you could pick your route that way. Now there’s the app. Way back in the day, the bus stop sign was a blue and yellow banner wrapped around a telephone pole. My guess is that most people used to use it purely to get into the city for work and everyone got dropped at Kennedy Plaza. You could get all the information you needed back then at the kiosk. Rhode Island is dreadfully slow when it comes to change.
