How do you rat out an Airbnb that is marked for the homestead exclusion? Asking for a friend.

oh, u/1ll1l1ll1l1l1l1l1ll1, look it's on the FAQ for the county, so they must get asked this question al ot--

My neighbor has moved out and uses his former home as a rental property. It still has a Homestead Exclusion on it. Is that legal?

No, the owner must use the property as his/her primary residence to qualify for the Homestead Exclusion. We can research that information for you.

You could... but if it's in your neighborhood, other houses in the area having higher taxes for whatever reason could work against your favor.

But then again, taxation is theft so why encourage the government?

Taxes are based off the assessment which is based off sales price so what others are paying in your neighborhood doesn’t really work against you.

By abusing the homestead exemption they’re taking money away from the local government which funds resources you might use like firemen, roads, etc.
