Before the proliferation of AOL, how could you find out the weather forecast on demand? First one to share the correct phone number wins. I called it daily as a tween/teen before picking out what to wear to school.

I also appreciate the authenticity of your answer, you didn’t have to use the area code for local calls back then.

Wow!! Thanks for the memory, we used to call 936-1212 every night before bed so we could get clothes out for school. I knew this number by heart (granted it was not a hard # to remember, but I was a young child).

I used to call 412-262-2170. NWS office in Moon. All you had to do was press 1 for the recorded daily forecast.

That would get you to the Pittsburgh Police.

That was for the cops I think. I remember memorizing that number as a young kid (it was on the side of police cars)

It was printed on the front page of the Post-Gazette.

I remember the yellow pages had a section with codes to call PG Link, an automated phone service. Maybe there was one from Channel 11 too in the Donnelly Directory, the competitor to the yellow pages?

Or you just waited <10 minutes for the local forecast on the Weather Channel.

Donnelly Directory isn't something I thought I'd remember. Thanks for unlocking that memory.

There was also a number for Time that was sponsored by Duquesne Light but I forget the number. Maybe it was 333-9300???

Wow I completely forgot about this. My brothers and I would always ask my Dad to call the “weather man” when the weather started to get nice.
