Happened to me too. I called and they didn't have much to say. They also just flat out dumped my can with the lid once, trash and lid went into the truck. It's a nice can too, but I don't have a lid for it. The best part is that I had an old broken trash can that I kept trying to throw out and they wouldn't take it, so I bought a big shop style trash back, put the can in that bag. They took it.

At this point I am laughing.

They stopped picking up my buckets of kitty litter a few weeks ago. One sat for weeks until I took matters into my own hands. I have started running outside when they pull up and throwing it in the truck myself. Haven’t had a chance to ask them about it yet. Yeah it’s heavy but they’ve taken them for like a decade then just started ignoring them.

They broke the lid off my trash can the other week. The whole thing was left upside down too for some reason. I get that they've got a lot of houses to hit in a day, but still.

Generally speaking a couple of our neighbors just put out garbage bags on the ground, cardboard boxes not broken down, etc and their cans are the ones that are upside down, across the alley, lids a couple houses down… It’s kind of entertaining at times. Not saying we are doing it right all the time or don’t scratch our heads at times, but there does seem to be a correlation to cans being where they belong and how crappy people make their jobs.

They managed to lose TWO of my city-issued recycling bins over the span of 2 or 3 recycling collections. There is evidently no mechanism for getting them replaced… good luck. I’ve tried.

Are you sure it didn't blow down the street?

As a garbage man, working for the city, I can understand your frustrations.

Whenever anyone asks me about cans. I usually just refer to 311.

I'm not going to take responsibility for anyone else's actions. And I'm not saying this reflects your situation, but I'd the can is severely cracked, sometimes it ends up in the back of the truck. You'd be surprised how many residents have cans that are hanging on by a thread and basically falling apart.

Edit: the blue bins are technically city property. For whatever that's worth.
