I want to pull out the distinction between guard ands officers being that officers can arrest students.

And then I want to mention that the ACLU report from Jan 2022 says black students are nearly 9 times more likely to be arrested in Allegheny County than white students.

1 in 51 black male students (Allegheny county, k-12) were arrested 2018-2019. The rate for white male students during the same time period was 1 in 316.

It’s the minimum, but I’m very pleased that the district is going to save 27k by not giving 4 more people the right to arrest students

We have to find a way to get cops out of schools altogether. Cops create uneasiness, anxiousness, and trauma in every space they inhabit. Their presence creates an environment antithetical to learning and health.

I love how the preface of these comments is that the cops just magically showed up at school one day and set up shop. Bullied the art teacher out of her room and created a satellite office.

The cops are there because they were asked to be there repeatedly by teachers, parents, and administrators.

Of which comments? I couldn't give a shit less why cops are in schools. I want schools to be safe enough so that no one thinks they need to be there.

Absolutely. No child needs to try to learn under threat like that. I definitely view this as a “well at least it didn’t get any worse” thing

Um how about more social workers and psychologists, please.

I can see how having an officer or two is helpful, but I've seen many a kid put into handcuffs in my high school day who was just simply rowdy and talking back.

What’s the teacher’s stance on this. Has their Union weighed in?

I have a solution, get the pigs tf out of the schools. Entirely. They're a huge drain on revenue and offer no tangible upside.
