Hi all! Me and my boyfriend are new to the area, I go to Carlow and him PTC. We are looking for somewhere to roller-skate but outside. I have a bit of social anxiety so I like to practice in abandoned parking lots and such where we aren’t as seen. Do you have any ideas? We have tried frick park tennis courts and they weren’t ideal. Sorry for any format issues I’m on mobile :/

Look up the Hazelwood Trail, there’s a bike lane, sidewalk and parking lots. It’s usually not very populated and if that doesn’t with you can hop on the GAP or Three Rivers Heritage trails.

Homewood Cemetery might be a good place. It is situated on hills so you’ll need to drive around a bit and find a good flat spot. Sections 30 thru 33 and 19-20 are more level sections.

A lot of parks have roller hockey rinks in area which typically no one is using - Scott township, greentree, banksville, Bloomfield, etc. the surface is awesome for blading and there will be no one to bother you!

This is where a bunch of people practice but it can get quite busy. Ignore that first Google map picture, it's rarely that packed.

But if you want a place with fewer people, I'd go to the point. It's counterintuitive but unless it's a game or fair day or a knackers gorgeous day, it's going to be pretty relaxed. And it's a nifty place.

North park by the pool. Huge parking lot and usually no one there except a few cars.

That's until the weather gets a bit nicer. Then it'll be packed all day long. That said, there's a nice 1.5 mile loop if you go up past the pool and right. I sometimes run up there and my kids widfe their bikes. It'd be good for rollerblading, though I'd be wary of grit on some of the downhills.

Down below the unfortunately-named football field on the north shore, there is a big open area with generally level cement. I recently started trying to roller blade for the first time since elementary school - 34 now 😅 If you have bikes, there’s a spot to lock it up while you practice.
