You can’t prove or disprove consciousness but it’s probably a continuum. Is an amoeba conscious? Is a spider? A dog? A 2 year old?
Where on this spectrum does AI fall, if at all?
What we’re doing with chatGPT is very similar to how a child learns.

What makes you say it’s similar to how a child learns? Is there any evidence for that? Everything I’ve seen indicates that it’s pretty different, but I’m no expert..

I just mean conceptually. You show a child something and then tell them a word, but also a lot of the time the child just gets exposed to a bunch of language and figures out the relationship between the words themselves. On a surface level that’s similar to the guided and unguided training paradigms we use for training AI models.
