Interesting critique. What a valuable and under appreciated perspective. I am struck by the number of times I am told a person must have faith in the psych intervention or they are to be blamed for it not "working". Any practitioner who develops doubts about the profession along any similar lines is in a position not unlike that of a priest having to go to the Bishop and saying - " look, behind the scenes and just between us... Even if God is real, all this ceremony and praying and stuff... That's not really something we know works is it? " In my experience, that's a really awkward conversation to have and the "Bishop" is pretty likely to just re assert the dogma.
