Handing anything over to 440 is the fastest way to ruin it. Shame we don't have a real newspaper to hold the district accountable. The Inqy is just a machine rag.

The old method gave principals arguably way too much say in the process and allowed the magnets to game the system (e.g., grabbing kids with a hearing impairment IEP to satisfy LeGare requirements), so it’s not like that was perfect, either.

The delay this year is aggravating, but I’ve been more annoyed by the district’s ass-backwards method of communicating it — the email last week was written in pure administratorese, which is to say it said exactly fuckin’ bubkis.

Yes I recall all the principals being too racist to select their students. Totally not racist once the kids get to school. But totally racist in picking kids to come to school.

If you’re cool with principals basically being able to make a call on a whim and game the system at every chance possible, then I don’t know what to tell you.

Not saying the lottery is great, but shit, just look at the controversy around Bodine’s principal in the last year. And that’s one of the few that grow bad enough to attract publicity.

Maybe we should just let a lottery run the district then.....

I mean, we could acknowledge the weaknesses of both systems and debate what would be a better solution, but that clearly ain’t in the cards here.

Anyone whose argument starts with giving more authority to 440 ain't establishing any credibility worthy of hearing out, let alone full on debate.
