Why are there people just walking in the street drinking and blasting music? Is today some sort of Italian holiday or something?
Just walked down 12th

Yeah the Vikings won and there’s a tradition of the losing brigades serenading the winners. The Vikings usually win and most years it’s a calmer thing focused more on the performances but this year was a complete shit show. Assholes pissing all over the neighborhood. Fuck the Mummers.

Sips, Dinner en Blanc, Naked Bike Ride, and MIA are not for me but fine. Grown men pissing on my block is less fine. The Vikings celebration is usually decent but this year was a disaster.
It’s also interesting that the Mummers, Dinner en Blanc, and the Naked Bike Ride each have entirely different groups of people.

>The problem with the mummers is half the comic brigades shit all over the lawlessness in Philly and then get drunk in public and piss in the streets.
You didn't see the pickup truck with the "thin blue line" flag and Punisher stickers going 80 across the Ben Franklin Bridge?
Philly sub hates anything that isn’t crunchy ppl whining or witty jokes about Philly things

shutting down of MLK Drive on weekends for bikers/runners still ok?
Should never have reopened. Philly fitness went up 50% when it was closed

Don’t forget Bikelife
> This sub really hates people having fun lol
It's more about hating things that are major intrusions into other peoples' lives. All of these events are huge headaches for people who don't want to deal with them and are hard to ignore.

his flair says glenside LOL
Lmao
I don’t see any of these as major intrusions except for MIA and that’s only because I live a couple blocks from the art museum, and really the most annoying thing about it is that the parkway is blocked and it’s harder to get into Center City. I do think there’s a difference when there’s a lot of drunken debauchery happening (people urinating and throwing up in public, fights breaking out, anything that puts the public in danger like the ATV and dirt bike riders that don’t pay attention to road rules and are loud AF at all hours). I used to live above a bar and I detested St. Patrick’s Day when the Erin Express would come through and bring loads of loud, drunken idiots and I can see how people who live along the Mummers parade route would get pissed for the same reason.

Just ~city living~ baby
I think it's been calmer the last few years because of covid. I recall them winning around 2017 or 2018 and it was about on this level.
At least they brought in street sweepers around 8PM right after they wrapped up. They had a crew out there cleaning for a few hours.

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation!
Today is Mummer Serenade. Clubs greet and congratulate each other on another successful New Year.
Isn't that what their New Year's Day parade is for? These dudes need to get a life.
There is a competitive aspect of the parade. The serenade is to honor the winning brigade. It's a long standing part of Philadelphia culture and something many people value. Stop trying to dilute and diminish Philly's culture.
parties with friends on a weekend
"Wowwww get a life dudes"
i mean i say this as a guy trying to get his kid to nap while they march up and down the block dancing and drinking and blasting music so i get why people see it as an intrusion. idk. i kind of like the revelry though.
Glenside should keep their opinions in Glenside. Fucking JOP.
