Hi all,

My elderly parent and I are flying into PHL next weekend for a family event. I've flown into PHL several times before, but I usually have a relative pick me up and drop me off. This time I'll need to rent a car for the weekend. (I know how bad parking can be in the city center, but we will be heading to Bucks county and across the river to New Jersey, so a rental car will be needed for sure.)

Since my elderly mother will be travelling with me, I am looking for a rental car company that has easy access to get to their counter (hopefully at the airport instead of having to take a shuttle bus to an off-site location), as well as a convenient rental car return location. Bonus points if their process makes it easy to retrieve the car as well as drop it off.

I'd appreciate your suggestions and feedback. I'd prefer to stick with one of the major rental car companies instead of something like Turo. Thanks in advance.

Every rental car company is off-site with a shuttle at PHL.

You can leave your parents at baggage claim or arrivals or departures while you grab the rental car and pick them up at the door

You won’t find that at PHL. I agree with the suggestion to see if the party can wait at the airport and then get them. Or better yet walk over the sky bridge and let them wait in the Marriott lobby. You can meet them there and it will probably be more comfortable.

I use Alamo at PHL regularly and never have an issue.

It's not off-site but you do have to take their shuttle to get there. I think they all require a shuttle due to the location of the rental car company lots. You can't walk to any of them.

Thank you for the info. On our day of departure, how much time should I set aside for dropping off the car and taking a shuttle bus to the airline check-in terminal?

Like, ten minutes? It's not that anything is far, at all -- it's just that you have to wait for the shuttle to arrive.

Rental cars at 30th St station are about 40% cheaper than the airport

I wouldn't want to put an elderly passenger through that schlep.
