personally i don't understand why the Callowhill cut is just sitting there unused, especially now that the new police headquarters just gutted the area under Broad. imagine the route:

  • Spring Garden BSL
  • Matthias Baldwin
  • Von Colln
  • 27th & Pennsylvania
  • Girard Bridge
  • Strawberry Mansion Bridge
  • City Ave
49

Sorry, best we can do is callownhill street expressway and remove half of the crossings.

Could easily do trolleybuses too, doesn't even need to be full rail

This is really what we should be doing city wide. Implementing bus ways with trolley buses until money becomes available to turn lines into light rail corridors should demand justify it.

Part of the problem is that it's means of access to Center City has been eliminated. It was formerly a Reading Company freight branch that went to the Reading Terminal, but that connection was destroyed by I-676.

I also recall reading that part of it would be or has been taken over for a parking lot. That is perhaps a surmountable obstacle, but a nuisance all the same.

Its proximity to Brewerytown and the Art museum make it an excellent candidate for transit. A dedicated is probably the least difficult alternative, but I can't stop dreaming of using it as a rail alignment of some kind.

But it gets you to broad and callowhill within a 30 second walk to the Vine-Race BSL station. There could be an underground concourse there.

This map is so beautiful. Would make my work commute a breeze and the Bustleton connection is amazing. The northeast would probably grow even faster if they build this.

Such a shame our city doesn’t have the proper public transportation it deserves and once had

Having the Roosevelt subway with the MFL extension connects both the bus network and subway network together.

Based on the old Taylor map. Such a shame they never did build that subway

I continue to be impressed by Jay Arzu's success in promoting the Roosevelt Boulevard Subway. I remain pessimistic about its prospects, because I am me and this is Philadelphia, but he has taken it from opinion columns to something with a little actual enthusiasm and political support in less than a year. That's a considerable accomplishment.

I'm a little skeptical of the wisdom of making the Market-Frankford Subway-Elevated connection essential to the plan, because it will entail a considerable added cost. Admittedly, I might be biased by my own silly fantasy of a branch from the MFSE along Oxford and Castor Avenues, replacing the route #59 trackless trolley, to a point in Rhawnhurst.

the problem is if you say "oh, the connection comes later when we get additional funding," then that connection will quite possibly wait yet another 100 years.

Looks great. Too bad it’ll never get built.

I wouldn't need to drive every damn day if this fucking thing got built when it should have. So sick of shitting in 95 traffic coming home every day

RoughRhinos OP t1_j4t9mxr wrote

My condolences, hope it will get built so future generations can avoid that.

Why can’t we have more lines running on the same track? We can increase coverage and frequency efficiently. The trolleys do this well in CC but that’s about it. You can’t even transfer from Regional rail to the L or B for free so the benefits of overlapping lines are lost.

_crapitalism t1_j4o8pq2 wrote

you mean buying more rolling stock? I feel like subway frequency isn't the main issue with it, it's that it's only 2 incomplete lines.

Beautiful map. This is such an exciting project, I just hope it actually breaks ground in a reasonable timeframe.

Why are some stations handicap accessible? If they’re building a new subway wouldn’t all stations be accessible???

I think we can all agree - we are trying to keep those NE roosevelt boulevard people out of center city as much as we can - lol

_crapitalism t1_j4o8jra wrote

no, we should make it so they don't bring their big stupid cars into center city. that'll not only clear a bunch of car traffic, but it will increase foot traffic as well. It'll be great for people and businesses in the northeast, and in center city.

mustang__1 t1_j4t51ns wrote

I go the other way and it fucking sucks. Especially with the ever under construction 95. Once I'm in the city I can park and walk or bike. But I can't reasonably get to work otherwise.

What if I want to go from center city to the Northeast? Without a car
