This does not seem like a particularly architecturally remarkable or interesting building; reconstructing the original façade will be a nice thing do to, but I'm incapable of feeling or thinking that the developers should have some duty to do so or be beholden to a bunch of busybody preservationists. They should be able to tell the Preservation of Alliance of Philadelphia to just shove their heads up their asses, which is probably where they usually keep them, and built whatever they want.

That corner and block was the shit in the early to mid 2000s. Jones. Angelina. Chifa across the street. Morimoto in its absolute heyday. That Mexican joint where you could notoriously drink underage.

Sad to see the decline of that block. But happy to see someone might try to revive it.

Jones and the Las Vegas Lounge are historic buildings?

Meh, there's tons of surface lots in CC to be developed still. Wish we could be more like Western Europe and manage to balance both a healthy respect for historic preservation with sound planning. Obviously it can be done there while still resulting in much more livable cities. I don't really get all the preservation critiquing on here, the historic built environment it's what sets our city apart from much of the country.

This but unironically, the commission is a joke.

Just because a building is old does not mean it has to be preserved forever unchanging because of arbitrary taste in architecture. If a building didn't play an important roll in history it should be up to the property owner what to do with it. People who want to dictate what others can and can't do with their building should be forced to financially compensate the building owner for undermining their property rights for arbitrary reasons.

You mean limit growth and artificially increase housing prices by forcing everyone to live in dense urban areas. And then convincing people that four story apartment buildings are good for you and you'll like sharing all your spaces with everyone learn to share learn to share all the time share everything....
