If in South Philly, it’s supposed to go in the bay window alongside a Nativity scene and, inexplicably, a two-foot tall hard rubber Hulk Hogan.

I’ve always wondered how many other’s called their grandparents mom mom or pop pop. Getting nostalgic at 40. Thanks for the laugh and sharing that cool Mummers figure. Enjoy the parade and Happy New Year early!

Yes! Poppop is still around but Mommom has been gone 17 years ago today. Always got curious looks from my college friends when I said either. A guy I dated once made fun of me for referring to my Poppop as Poppop when talking to strangers, saying it sounded childish

Hold onto the memories! Hope that your mom mom introduced you to her favorite diner, newspaper, cliched Philly/Burb sayings, and that you think of those from time to time with a smile. I know I do often.

I called my great grandmother mom-mom, and my grandfather pop-pop.

We called mine mam mam, only because my whole fuckin extended family stayed in a 10 block radius in south Philly and my great aunt already cornered the Market on mom mom and it would be too confusing to have two mom moms

Tell me about, my great grandparents on my grandfather’s side? We called them Mom Mom-Mom Mom and Pop Pop-Pop Pop, respectively.

Mom's side is from Fox Chase and they are/were Mom Mom and Pop Pop. Dad's side from Olney and went by Mom Mom and Poppy.

Girlfriend's fam is from Abbington and recently talking about what her parent's will go as when we have kids and she's pretty sure her mom is gonna settle on Mom Mom. I kind of hope so, nothing else makes sense to me!!!

My pleasure, friend! I too get incredibly nostalgic around this time. The 80’s in Philly were special, especially during the holidays. Happy New Year!

I rescued this bad boy from EBay, after scouring for months. The seller had no idea what they had in their hands.

Happy almost Mummer’s Day, everyone. What’s your favorite New Year’s Day soup recipe?

roguefiftyone t1_j26jvl4 wrote

Leftover ham from Christmas used to make bean soup. I grew up right off broad street and that was a staple in my grandparents house on New Year’s Day

It’s such a damn shame Froggy Carr ruined the whole thing for anyone not involved. The mummers are probably at their least popular point ever because of it which is kind of sad. losers ruin everything
