I am at a complete loss (and running out of time) for a Christmas gift for my parents. I’d prefer to gift them some kind of experience as opposed to things, but I’m stuck on coming up with an idea. They are both in their early 60s and actually live in Chester County. My dad is definitely more adventurous than my mom, who is the one stumping me here. They do like wine and are members of the wine clubs to a few different wineries. I’d rather avoid just a gift certificate to a nice restaurant.

Any suggestions for an experience/activity I could get for this this year? In the city or the suburbs?

My go-to for my parents are tickets to a Phillies game (my dad) and tickets to a show (my mom). Cooking classes can also be fun! Or maybe a class at Philadelphia Wine School or Philly Cheese School? There are also some local pottery studios that do date night classes, if something more creative would work! I’ve done classes at Black Hound Clay Studio and The Clay Studio, and both were great.

Ohh, Philly Wine School or Cheese School sounds cool and something they’d both like. Is that what’s they are called?

just went to the wolf sanctuary in lititz pa - near lancaster - and it’s not something i would normally do (or even think i would like) but it was awesome! a private tour for 2 will run about $100.

Oh, my uncle is a photographer and I think he went there once on a private tour to photograph the wolves. That might be a god one.

Membership to Longwood Gardens (if they like gardens) or Winterthur (if they like history, nature walks, or Stately Homes as the Brits call them). They can go to various events, exhibitions, and so forth, or just go for a lovely walk, any time during the year. Personally I prefer Winterthur. I believe they have reciprocal membership with several Philly gardens, but double check that as there are usually distance restrictions.

Alternately, a membership to the museum or garden or nature center of their choice, keeping in mind that they are more likely to go to places nearby their home. Consider also Hagley, anything near you that you could go to together, the art museum, and so on.

Def wine school or Dibruno’s offers a nighttime experience where you can sample everything.

They might also like Longwood garden membership or passes

We loved our visit to the Wolf Sanctuary. Depending on your budget, you can get them a B&B room on site. Lititz is actually a very cute town to walk around and staying overnight will allow them to enjoy the shops.

In addition to the great suggestions thus far, a gift certificate for a dinner cruse on the Spirit of Philadelphia. I've gotten these for family members in various cities and they're always a big hit

A gift certificate to a cooking class where they hang out drinking wine and learning how to cook something then eat it is a cool experience. Sur La table in the kop mall offers this

Have they been to the Wharton Esherick museum? It’s in Chesco and is a hidden gem. Kind of similar to a Frank Lloyd Wright kind of vibe. The architecture is interesting and then his studio is filled with sculptures and furniture.

Do they like plays/shows/sports/etc?

Are they into art/dancing/etc?

There are many various types of events or classes you can look into getting them something for.

They have couples classes at Philadelphia woodworks in Manyunk. They can make something like a cutting board or turn a bowl, to keep for years.

They also have classes that pair with Tria wine school for wine and wood nights. You could get two experiences in one.

Are they Christian? You could purchase a pair of tickets to see a show at Sight ,& Sound in Lancaster. Moses begins March 2023.
