It's possible to not be a mature human, and also not be an asshole.

88

toss_it_out_tomorrow t1_ivda5wz wrote

Yep, that's totally true. I was a seriously bad teenager and I still never did shit like this. I grew up in a neighborhood that slowly started going bad and looking worse and worse every single day and it made me so mad. I would never destroy something pretty no matter how much of an asshole teen I was.

15

woo545 t1_ivdmauw wrote

It's not necessarily doing stuff to be an asshole, though. A male's frontal cortex doesn't finish developing until the late 20's. This results in teen boys doing incredibly stupid, impulsive things and not realizing what they've done until after the act has been completed (if at all). It's exponentially worse with each teen boy added to the mix.

I'm a high school teacher in Philly, I see a lot of kids. I've taught in urban, suburban, rural, public, and charter schools. Never private. The type of kid that would do this is exceptionally rare. The kids are by and large mostly alright.

21

cherryreddracula t1_ivejxp7 wrote

Agreed. I did stupid shit as a young male, but I think most peers who saw someone do this would be thinking something's loose in their head.

This is some anti-social shit.

woo545 t1_ivgek0y wrote

I'm just saying that boys just do the dumbest things imaginable when left to their own devices. Things where you just like, "really?! wtf were you thinking?" Most of those things, you snicker behind their back. Other times, you get angry about how callous they were. When in the end, they weren't thinking.

Screw people who do stuff like this. I truly want to know their thought process.

I saw someone tagging a building this summer and asked why, he got upset and yelled “because it’s legal.” Idk how that justifies destroying things to anyone.

I think I know who did this! About 2 weeks ago, I was walking over by Jefferson in Old City and saw a man pulling plants out of their planters and throwing them on the ground. He kept mumbling, "This is so cool. I've never done this before," over and over to himself. I'd be willing to bet it was the same guy.

That lady is currently screaming at the top of her lungs near Rittenhouse. I can hear her off in the distance. Truly insane that it’s just accepted that wildly mentally ill people live like this and that we have to deal with it

14

DJRoombasRoomba t1_ivc9lho wrote

I can tell you who this most likely is. There's a woman who clearly has been in the midst of a psychiatric episode the past few weeks who stomps around Center City screaming at people at the top of her lungs. You can hear her from multiple blocks away. She also flips over every single one of those metal boxes that they used to put newspapers in. She also will walk down the street violently pulling on all the doors she encounters, locked or not.

I'm like 98% sure this was her.

23

Squadooch t1_ivdl7x1 wrote

It’s been weeks of this and she’s not been 302ed??

DJRoombasRoomba t1_ivdm1iv wrote

As of a few hours ago she's still wandering around. I saw her outside of Dunkin tonight screaming at everybody that walked by.

7

Squadooch t1_ivj8zb9 wrote

Totally ridiculous. Police just will not do their jobs. (To clarify, I mean their job of taking her into custody and bringing her to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation/hold, not arresting her. Her being allowed to just behave this way isn’t helping anyone, including her.)
