I failed my car inspection because my tires are the incorrect size for my car so I need to replace them. They're still in relatively good condition. Does anyone know of any businesses that buy used tires from people? It seems like a waste to throw them away.

Sell them online locally. Make sure to get the size from the sidewall.

Get your car inspected at another place. Go to one in the hood somewhere. As long as your brakes are good and have no engine lights they won’t care about your tires.

There's too many things I don't know to say. I'd be gentle yet firm and request your stickers. Talk to the owner/operator of the shop.

You may also call or email the PennDOT tip line at (717) 705-9913 or RA-pdPennDOTTip@pa.gov.For complaints regarding inspection stations within the 25 emissioninspection counties, call (800) 265-0921. You may also call or email thePennDOT tip line at (717) 705-9913 or RA-pdPennDOTTip@pa.gov.

EDIT: I also would not give no fucks if you tried showing me some link on the Internet and I worked as an inspection tech.

I see you are new to Pennsylvania. In my experience shops will make up all kinds of things for extra money come inspection time. You have to be careful where you go.

If they know that you are aware of the inspection code they will usually stop messing with you since their shop risks regulatory fines or even closure.

All the time they charge for things like wipers that don't need replaced, bulbs that were never burned out.... they've even stolen OEM parts off my new car and changed them with crappy ones. They stole my heated mirrors once and changed them with basic ones. It depends on the reputation of the shop. A lot of times they will do it without your consent and even hold your car hostage. They tried failing me for brake pads already when they were above the minimum. I pointed this out to them and they gave me my stickers.

Also I like to go places where you can wait and watch them work.

Inspection time is a big source of stress for me because theres always bullshit.

This is such BS. If there's no treadwear, (edit) and not rubbing the body/frame, it should pass. You're probably getting better gas mileage with that size too. Looks like they're trying to sell you new tires, the shop can resell your current used tires, if you disposed with them.

They're are plenty of folks with aftermarket rims/tires and pass inspection without having to revert their wheels to stock.

I can recommend you a place that does a good inspection, and done in ~30 mins. Just send me a DM.

FWIW Theres a place Tonys Tires at 9th & Oregon that sells & installs used tires. They generally have decent tread, usually the big places will have people come in and just purchase all 4 new tires, so 1 or 2 may be reusable. They'll then dispose of these to these type places or something.

You can get a great deal if ever your in a pinch.

I can't tell if you've gotten incredibly unlucky or I've gotten incredibly lucky or what.

I've been having vehicles inspected in this state every year for 20+ years and never run into an issue. Multiple garages, city, rural, dealer, you name it.

While I don't live in Jersey, Family Tire in Camden is a great spot. They have new and used tires. Good staff and the family that runs it is cool. I drive Uber after work and used them when I was in a pinch. Paid $200 for a used set that was like new, and it included the disposal fee.
