For context this car has been here for nearly a year by my counting, looks like someone who lives nearby got tired of that spot being blocked from use

Can you call 311 and report the abandoned vehicle?

lemonhalf t1_itq2gxb wrote

You can buy it takes months or a year and repeated calls. I'm guessing that's actually what is going on here.

If a vehicle is parked where it's allowed (even for a year straight) and looks road ready - does it really count as abandoned?

Yes

As long as the registration and inspection are current, no.

Electr_O_Purist t1_itrv5og wrote

If it’s been in the same spot for more than year, how could they have gotten the inspection done?

justanawkwardguy t1_itrv9kx wrote

They could have a friend who’s a mechanic come look at it, or even illegally pass it without sight

If the registration & inspection are up-to-date and the car looks drivable there’s not much anyone can do.

Well... Not really. You could do questionably legal things

Say what you will about John Street but I appreciated his passion for scooping up the derelict cars and disappearing them.

Didn’t he also get a lot of housing, that was well beyond repair, demolished.

He did. I don't care what anyone thinks, I appreciated Mayor Street. Those were fun times back then, I miss Borders.

Yeah, his major cleanup efforts were a huge part of preparing this city for new construction and rehabilitation of many neighborhoods. That’s much, much more than the current administration has accomplished.

Shoutout to the guy at 3rd and Delancey and his collection of crappy classic cars

veganjam t1_itxhsbk wrote

Last I checked there were 4 shitty cars parked there. Has the collection expanded?

BobbyGumdrops t1_itxj76i wrote

Haha not sure but when I was there in 2021 it was 4 cars. Three on 3rd street and one on Delancey. Probably haven't been moved in a decade.

veganjam t1_itxr5xr wrote

They've been there since at least 2005...If they need to use a car for something, they'll move one of the other ones to take up two spaces to hog the spots...

This is why we need permit parking everywhere. Or else this car would've been booted and towed a long time ago.

I'm not sure where this is though. Don't tell me PPA isn't even doing their job?!
