The building is getting demolished and turned into a skyscraper. Look up 412 north 2nd street.

Why did they paint it over?

Utter_cockwomble t1_iu2d4u8 wrote

Because it was abandoned and covered in graffiti.

Nope, building is coming down for a big mixed use tower.

Porque no los dos?

I drive by this every work day. It's been graffiti covered for months. You don't have to paint over a mural to knock a building down.

Fair, but I think the mindset was they'd rather be seen painting over the mural than taking a wrecking ball to the Native Americans' and immigrants' faces. A lot of these are painted over prior to demo. Why would they care about graffiti on it since it's about to be demolished.

I think its more out of respect. How would it look throwing a wrecking ball through it or attaching explosives to "The History of Immigration?"

That is a massive shame. You can see the original mural here:

I think that part's still there. It was the portion of the mural with Native Americans that got tagged up, and recently buffed. Don't get mad at CLIP, get mad at the turds who tagged over native faces. I guess get mad at both if you want.

They’re tearing that building down

It was covered in graffiti and the building is coming down.

Mural arts projects were primarily started as an anti blight program, they're not meant to last forever.

Funny thing about this i knew one of the guys that painted this. He was dating my then best friend's sister who i had prior dealings with. Almost got into a fight with him. It was about this same time he helped paint that. However, he was very talented artist.

Sad, and another sign of profits over people.

I agree. Those who graffiti'd it didn't really care about the people who produced the mural.
