I do all my shopping during sports games, especially places that are usually packed (Trader Joe’s is one).

I would assume Sunday at 1 is a great time to shop.

When I was young I had to work a retail job that was open during the games on Sunday. All the employees would sit around and completely ignore the customers until a commercial was on and then rush them out and go back to the game . They would complain to the MGR but he was the one who brought in the TV and didn’t care.

I’m curious and no judgement at all: Is it you prefer less-crowded places, or are not someone that likes being around sports fans / crowds cheering (loud noise) / etc?
I have zero interest in baseball, but I love the energy and general euphoria in the playoffs (and I’m an active participant with football)

The happy rooster is usually my go to. Not to avoid sports, but people typically don’t hang out there to watch games. Also Bar on 13th and sansom, a.k.a bar on rittenhouse, or Time right next door to Bar

Went to R&D cocktail bar during the playoffs at prime time on a Saturday. It was easy to get a table and all the most stylish people in Philly were there not watching the game.

I’m a baseball fan, have been all my life. I’ve been loving watching the Phillies in the World Series runup. But I don’t enjoy watching the games in crowded restaurants or bars. It’s so loud you can’t hear yourself think, it’s often standing room only which sucks for hours on end, it’s crowded and you’re often jammed together with strangers, and depending on where you go the food isn’t the best and beer options are limited (and you often end up nursing a warm beer for a while). I have a much better time ordering a couple of pizzas and wings and having a few friends over. There’s cold beers in the fridge, it’s comfortable, it’s not loud, and you can actually chat and hear yourself during commercial breaks.

Those places are great, but I think OP is talking about spots that are typically crowded or busy, but empty out during games, which makes going there easier or more fun.
BaronsDad t1_iuaovda wrote
I guess I don’t really notice a big difference walking around grocery stores or shops in the city on game day. Everything is so limited on hours (compared to pre Covid) that the people watching or at the games don’t really change anything

I have a genuine interest in what other people think and do.

Totally makes sense. I often feel the same - There’s a difference between crowded and makes me feel claustrophobic. Thanks again, was curious from the way you put it.

I passed this on to a co-worker just now that despises sports.

I do all my shopping during Phillies/Eagles games (especially Eagles- great for when it's extra crowded during the holidays). It's lovely.
I also like going to favorite hiking trails (I'm in Chester county so not really helpful for Philly dwellers unless you want to drive all the way out to the sticks to hike along the brandywine or something)
Honestly never thought about going to museums and stuff.. I might do the for the Barnes and see if it is less crowded but somehow I doubt it.
Also love going out to dinner/normally crowded bars during the Superbowl. Once went to Victory during the Superbowl and had the place to ourselves almost. I know I'm a heathen but I don't like sports or people 😅
