That’s usually standard, commissioner is always on the phone and making appearances. Don’t want to be texting and driving and be involved in an accident oh wait….There’s a long list of useless positions/overtime abuse and I wouldn’t put this at the top. Now the question is how much is that driver making where it becomes absurd.

Yeah, I don’t know if they have the patience to wait 30 seconds for the light to turn. It seems almost mandatory for them to turn their lights on whenever they encounter a red (Only to turn them off right after crossing)!

I guess the alternative would be the city is largely uneducated vs suburbs and doesn’t care about the news? As someone who does live in the city, I’m happy for the suburban folk allowing me as a city resident to hear about the city news.

Yeah no kidding. And if by some miracle you reach someone and they say they are on their way you're lucky if they get there within 3 hrs. Someone hit and run damaged a family members car parked on street. Dispatch asked was anyone injured. He said no. They said so what does he want them to do for him. Lol.

No, which is why she doesn't get a whole caravan accompanying her. However, it doesn't appear like she even gets a police escort; it's just her and her driver. I'm not surprised that the driver is a trained officer and not a regular chauffeur, as he may also double as protection.

Bro I literally had a guy run into my car on Market (fraud), and he was laying in the street for like 20 minutes.

911 wouldn't answer. People freaking the fuck out at me thinking I killed a guy.

Cops show up 20 minutes later, tell me they don't have time for this, and when a very nice witness came over to tell them the dude was running in traffic for a while, they finally decided to call him an ambulance as a way to get him to leave.

This story pisses me off.

Edit: And if the very nice employee/owner of the restaurant that provided video to me or the woman who stood by with me for 30 minutes is reading this - you have no idea how thankful I am for you. Thank you. I think the only reason I got through that is because I was so damn mad at the guy, and aware of what he did/the fact I caught it in time to stop. I was able to keep it together just long enough. If you guys didn't come out to help I probably would have gotten arrested.

Edit 2: And also sued

because there too many people trying to scare everyone about how dangerous drones are. I remember there was some protest and I think this was before FAA started putting rules in place, someone put a drone up to watch what everyone was doing. People started freaking out and cops followed the drone back and arrested the drone operator. Over nothing.

he was literally arguing with the dispatcher to send an officer to file a report. she finally agreed, reluctantly, and with such attitude too

he waited a half hour, and went back into his apartment building

over 3 hrs later he got a call officer was outside ready to look at the damaged car

That would be a miracle in this damn city. I had a man call my phone at 2am saying he was going to end his life. I’m a previous 911 dispatcher and I kept him on the phone for 3 hours. Text to 911, they disconnected on me twice saying “just tell him to call the suicide hotline.” Never sent me an officer to my house. I drove to 3 different districts and ultimately ended up at the mans house, which was miraculously 20 minutes away from mine, that I found his address and provided to PD to do a wellness check, and told the sergeant “I’m not leaving until you help him.” They took him immediately when they realized I was the one on the phone and if they didn’t take him, I was going to.

This city is a joke when it comes to mental health.

Thank you. Frustrating isn’t the word, I didn’t get home until 630am that day. He’s the only person I ever got to meet after 3 years of both helping and losing people over the phone. In a weird way, I think it was some type of closure. I hope he’s doing well now.

Buddy look at my comment below. I hit a guy, and a bunch of people passing by thought he was dead. For literally 20 minutes a dude was laying on the street at 17th and Market and a bunch of passerby thought I killed him. 911 answered no one.

Cops happened to roll by, and they acted like it was a fucking nuisance.

I will believe the most outlandish anecdotal stories about the cops in this city. They are fucking awful at their jobs and a large percentage of them are lazy assholes. Many of them are even vindictive because people told them they suck at their jobs (which they do - and they should feel bad until they don't)

You call the cops in any other neighborhood and it's even worse response times. Let alone the neighborhoods you would never find yourself in.

Edit: not to mention people were calling the cops on this dude before he ran into me. He was doing it for the whole day according to the witness that stuck around for me. Absolutely insane that shit happens for an extended amount of time anywhere in the city, let alone one of its most trafficked areas.

Yeah but the news stations know the suburbanites don’t wanna hear a daily dose of crime near them. They know the suburbanites wanna hear about the crime in the city proper. It helps them feel good about living outside the city. Benefiting from working or being in proximity to the city.. But being able to stay far enough to not have to care about the needs of the city.

I’ve had arguments with my insurance company over this, because I didn’t have a police report after an accident and they “can’t believe that police don’t respond to accidents”. Umm, im in Philly. I’m lucky if I can get someone to answer when I call 911, let alone come out to the scene of an accident.

It's a joke when it comes to police doing fucking anything, other than getting paid a salary to do real estate on the side, or getting reinstated after violently assaulting citizens due to FOP pressure. I've never heard a story of pigs happily helping someone who asked for it, even when they presented evidence.

The thing that makes me crazy about this is.. where are they in a hurry to go? They're literally just patrolling most of the time. I sorta get why someone wants to run reds and not wait, but seriously, if PPD are just blatant scofflaws, not sure why we expect better from anyone else.
