The 1st is a store offering 18/hr (40 hrs).

The 2nd is a luxury clothing store offering 15/hr. + a 3% commission on the sales she will make.

Which do you think makes the most financial sense to accept? Assuming the jobs are both full time would it even out or it the potential for commission a game changer?

And before everyone makes fun she just recently got her authorization to work in the US and will be starting from the bottom rung but before we got married she owned her own business outside the US.

The first job will have predictable and regular pay. The second offer will be unpredictable and irregular pay. That’s about all that can be said with accuracy.

What are the other benefits?

Will she be able to consistently sell $100/hr in role number 2 and work full time? That’s how much she needs to sell every hour to earn that $ difference before taxes and everything else. If not, option 1 might be the way to go not considering other external factors.

Thats what I told her as well, the store with commission is Tory Burch and apparently sells high end items up to thousands of dollars from what she told me (I've never been but it's her favorite store)

Definitely role number 2 because that's her favorite clothing brands store but I'm afraid she'll be tempted to buy things with her employee discount which would be counter productive haha

As some one has already pointed out - it comes down to how busy store #2 is.... Can she make a hell of a lot more at store #2? Yes... Can she make a hell of a lot less at store #2? Yes...

What I would suggest is that she or you or one of her friends go to the store randomly over the next day or two - different hours of it being open - 9AM, noon, 2:30, 4:15, 7... and see how many customers are there, and more importantly how many are pulling out cash or credit cards at the register - and if possible try to figure out what the average sale is per customer...

Another thing your wife can do is to call the person she interviewed back and say, I really would love the opportunity to work for you and I would love the opportunity to work at XYZ... but I am wondering, can you give me an idea of what the average sale per day a whatever the title she will have - does? I am new to concept of commissions and I just want to make sure that I have the opportunity to make more than another offer I have that has a higher base.
