It's a sales tactic to get you in there to buy a new car. If they're offering you extra money for your trade, they're charging you more for the new car.

Dealers don't do anything because it benefits the customer.

That makes me feel better about saying no, thanks. Getting my oil changed and new brakes and they always offer a cabin air filter replacement after I just changed it. I hate the name brand garages, but idk if I can trust a local garage with the correct oil and care either.

I'm not saying I'd trust Jiffy Lube, but your Civic is nothing special. Any decent local mechanic can work on it. Ask your friends and family if they know of a good one.

Good on you for changing the air filters yourself, in most cars, you could probably train a monkey to do it. Super easy.

You should try to find a well-reviewed independent mechanic near you. They are almost certainly overcharging you a good bit for the brakes, if you even really need them at all.

Thanks, I'll be looking around after this visit. Yeah, I do need them, put it off longer than I'd like for safety.

It's pretty easy to do a mail merge both physically and electronically or a cookie based advertisement via your IP to tell owners of 'Car X/year Y/trim Z' that their car/year/trim is in super high demand for trade in. This is a common tactic to drive traffic to the dealership.

There’s no actual “extra money” to be had, just another marketing tactic to get you into the dealership. Back during the pandemic I was going to buy an EV and I got a similar email from a Honda dealer, thought why not add the dealer to my options for selling my old civic. Turned out to be a total waste of time as they still offered me 4K below what I eventually got from Carmax.

This is a common sales tactic. They are trying to get you in the door so they can talk you into buying a new car. Sure....they'll give you extra money on your old car. But then look at how much they mark up the new car to offset it.

They lie a lot

"We have a unique need for exactly your car!"

Call them up.

Dealer: "What car do you have?"

You: "The one in unique demand!"

Dealer: "Umm...funny thing about that..."

Nope only pre pandemic offers. "It's a trap" lol. They will offer you what seems to be a great offer on your used Honda just to get you into a more way over priced post pandemic honda... with an outrageous interest rate. Drive that sucker til the wheels fall off!... jk keep up on maintenance and don't let your wheels literally fall off
