He doesn’t look like a sprinter, but we’re a national tragedy away from him outrunning the Overton Window.

Pretty much, the only reason Santos got elected is that the Democrat was a swamp creature.

This weirdo has absolutely no reason to leave. The longer he stays, the more $$$ he will get from Netflix for the biopic.

It's a purple district. A special election is an almost certain win for Dems, flipping a seat in a very close house. No way Santos leaves on his own and very little chance he is forced in the next two years.

So, a sociopathic liar who is wanted for fraud in another country is better than a “swamp creature”?

I’m just trying to make sure I understand the logic of the less intelligent half of our country. Looking forward to a response.

He's already planning his next con in Congress and people still work for him. He ain't going nowhere

If he gets arrested, which I think its highly likely, does that mean automatic remove from congress? Or would the house still have to do their procedure to remove him?

With all the lying he has done. I would be shocked if those campaign funds did not involve some criminal element.

Tom Suozzi is a centrist hack but I don’t think we’ll hear any of the usual progressive suspects complaining about that until after he’s elected.

Is it true you get a full pension and benefits for life after serving just one term?

Rottimer t1_j560xpf wrote

No, it’s not automatic. Unless he resigns, they’d have to vote to kick him out. Worse, if by some miracle they arrest and convict him - but Republicans don’t kick him out and he doesn’t resign, he could probably argue to a judge that he needs to be released each day to do his job in congress and stay in jail at night or when congress is otherwise out of session.

Only way he is leaving is in handcuffs. Otherwise, there is zero chance he will step down.

Republicans will absolutely drag their feet about removing if they even do (unlikely). But every day he stays emboldens the GOP grifters. Santos is showing them, that they can lie about anything and they won’t be consequences. We are watching democracy die

We're talking about the Nassau County republican party. Theyve called for his resignation, probably knowing it won't happen. But they were pretty aggressive. The RNC which he is now beholden to is far different.

Because they would have easily replaced him with another Republican that's not controversial. If New York was a swing state, Democrats would have left Cuomo alone instead of making him resign to easily replace him with another Democrat.

That’s historically very conditional and political.

Many countries reject all American requests simply because the death penalty isn’t banned. Or because our appeals process is too complex/expensive.

No chance someone in office is extradited. That’s an easy one to deny.

pixel_of_moral_decay t1_j57lr0e wrote

US can just say “human rights” which for Brazil’s legal system is a realistic complaint.

0 chance he’d get extradited. Odds are low even for an ordinary citizen unless there’s a high value arrest we want in exchange. For a politician in office? 0.
