It isn't. The entire subway system was shut down in August 2011 for 1.5 days for Hurricane Irene. So, it's only been 4,156 consecutive days. . .

Were any train operators on duty moving trains around that day? And if so do we know if they wore pants that day? If both were the case, technically it’d still be 43,175 consecutive days because the holiday is not exclusive to just passengers.

I think that would be up for debate. If the train operators got to work via the subway then you would have a point. However if they were on the clock I wouldn’t consider that a “subway ride.”
