NYC spends disproportionately little on policing relative to other American cities. And given the crimes trends, this is a dangerous decision.
In 2020, that was about 8%. We are down to 5% now.

The proposed cut is 2.5% when every other agency in the city has been forced (unreasonably) to make cuts. And we all know that will just get made up with more "mandatory" overtime.
