It gives Long Islanders a direct line to Grand Central. Previously if they needed access to grand central they’d have to get off at Penn Station and spend another 20 minutes commuting on the subway.

The LIRR has like 105 million riders a year. LOTS of Long Islanders work in the city, and not all of them are Trumpers who think they're gonna get shot the second they get off the train.
