I have a 10-trip AirTrain card with 8 trips left that expires in 29 days. I can mail it to anyone with an upcoming trip.

You can swipe it 4 times in a row so you can give some free swipes to 3 random people each way if you're traveling solo.

You sure they expire? Metro card say they do but you can just exchange it for another one in the machine.

The card itself has a years-long expiration date, and you’re right that there’s a formal process for them to be exchanged (at a machine, at a booth, or by mailing them in).

But OP is referring to a separate timeline: there’s a 10-trip JFK-AirTrain pass “product” that expires within 30 days. After that, the card continues to work like any other Metro Card but the pass doesn’t.
