That's why.

Which of Molina's relatives is an investor in the vendor?

Also, how long until inmates are being required to pay for this service? Receive your daughter's drawing of an elephant for the low, low price of $17.99!

Reads like they know most smuggled items are coming in from Correctional Officers but it's easier to turn a blind eye there, blame the mail, and create an expensive and bureaucratic alternative. One of those CO's was high on the job, or had a panic attack trying to stash something, and is blaming it on wild fent exposure.

Also, I don't trust the claims made by the Correction Officers' Benevolent Association, which they provided no evidence or proof of and sounded indignant when asked about it. I remember during the BLM protests in 2020 it was the Police Benevolent Association that told the press the made-up story of cops being poisoned by milkshakes at 5 Guys downtown. They can get away with feeding false stories to the press a lot easier than the NYPD can, and most readers (if they even go beyond the headline) don't seem to pick up on the difference.

Yep, it couldn't be more transparent. The push to take away mail and books from inmates and provide electronic versions for a fee is worth a ton to vendors because, well, they have a literally captive audience. (Similarly, extortion type rates are in place at prisons that charge to have phone calls with loved ones, and is why there's an effort to end charges for these calls. )

Prison labor pays almost nothing (and it is basically slave labor) so this is to squeeze the families, mostly. And exert control.

i mean law enforcement basically invented the myth so of course they'd perpetuate it.

1 to turn a blind eye that it’s officers and staff doing majority of the smuggling

2 some corrupt fuck bribed adams and convinced him to use his company to do this scanning

3 extortion inmates and their Tamil will be forced to pay those fees with no alternative

They tried to pull similar shit with books a few years ago, and it removed the ability to send books and prisoners had to pay to read a tiny curated list of books provided by a third party vendor

This is why it's fair to call the entire prison system for profit even though only a small number of facilities are entirely privately operated. See also: phone contracts, commissary contracts, renting of labor, etc.

Besides the actual bad actors intentionally spreading fentanyl misinformation there are literally so many people who are unable to determine what is true these days. My cousin is a 911 dispatcher and he makes it sound like the entire police dept and all the dispatchers he works with all believe the fentanyl myths. He has all these ridiculous stories of the officers needing naloxone because fentanyl was in their general proximity. The symptoms they say they have don't even match what is described by reputable sources. They just make up whatever they think 'an overdose' looks like saying it made them go crazy and lose control.
