I would never pay anyone to open the door to my apartment lol
These guys are underpaid, very nice and make me feel safe
It's not your responsibility to pay/tip them, especially if you're tight on money.
Surely they know your work sitch (doormen know almost everything going down with tenants), so $50 would be probably a pleasant surprise. Give what you can afford.
My doormen bend over backwards for the pensioners in the bldg, all year long, and there is no way any of them give more than $10-20 at the holidays.
Not everyone is tipping $100+. Some people don't even tip. Don't feel obligated to if you can't afford to do it. Don't feel embarrassed about anything.
For $50-100, I’ll be climbing through the windows.
As a doorman, trust me we appreciate anything that we get for the holidays. $50 is about average $100 is a lot in my eyes. I usually get $20-$50
Maybe surprise them more regularly....
It’s the thought that counts. There are more freeriders than you realize.
Thanks. I can afford it - feel like when I say tight on money (who isnt in nyc) im still making a decent amt (125k). Just have a lot of student debt and high rents dont help. Its nice to give back to others just dont want to seem tacky
Just to give you more anxiety, Tips are usually split with the Super/Porter/Handymen :)
$50 is more than fine for a young person who's not any trouble.
I individually have been handing them out
Oh, you are awesome!!!
You should be giving advice not asking for it!

give what you can afford. you don't have to always keep up with the jones'. people tipping big bills in public are only looking for attention.
