I had the same question! Why are they hiring private security at all?? There are already tons of cops in the subway

Probably because it’s not the best use of police resources to have them solely standing at turnstiles waiting for people to jump them.

the police get to hide or sit in break rooms and collect a check. riders must be careful on public transit. see how easy it was for those tourists to get robbed right on the platform.
