People see NYU, Cooper, and the New School downtown and think oh that's what college campuses in NYC are like. But Columbia, Pratt, City College, Fordham, Queens College, Saint Johns, Brooklyn College, SUNY Maritime, Kings Point, and Kingsborough Community College all have pretty good campuses.

Best campus in the state. We also have a pier where our state ship, The Empire State berths year-round as well. We will be getting the first National Security Multi-Mission Vessel, which will be the Empire State VII. :)

Can’t forget Lehman College. I didn’t go there, but that place is gorgeous.

I attended Brooklyn College for 3 years and yea I agree its campus is underrated compared to some of the others in NYC. The problem is the old buildings like Ingersoll and Boylan are literally falling apart from the inside because of how old and undermaintained they are. The library on the other hand is still in good shape and is probably one of the best features about the campus.

5 for me btwn my BS and first MA, and... yea. I basically lived in the Ingersoll Extension since that's where my lab was, and the actual state of it was pretty rough.

Like many old buildings in NYC, they get even hotter in the winter than in the summer. When I was a student at BC, I’d arrive early to class so I could get a seat by the window because if I didn’t I’d be sweating through my clothes

Brokelyn College like many of the other CUNY campuses are not funded as well as the private colleges. Some of the classrooms are falling apart and I don't think the clock works anymore. They also used to have a pedestrian bridge that was removed.

VIK_96 t1_iw095s5 wrote

Wait seriously? They had a pedestrian bridge once?

smoonyc t1_iw0hlqb wrote

Yep - they tore it down to build the other side of the quad.

It’s very photogenic. Used in many movies and tv shows as the typical college quad even tho it’s in the middle of Bk.

There’s campuses all over NYC lol

Donny_Crane t1_ivzr89q wrote

There aren't that many. Fordham, Columbia, Brooklyn College, Queens College, and...? City College is beautiful but doesnt have much of a campus.

QBillionaireJay t1_ivzrgl4 wrote

There’s 25 CUNY campuses bro.

Donny_Crane t1_ivzrmfm wrote

Yeah but most of those CUNY campuses are pretty piddly. Brooklyn College is the nicest of them I guess. Columbia and Fordham are nicer though.

I’m partial to Kingsborough, right by the beach, cafeteria faces the Atlantic. Gym is huge. Transportation is a nightmare though.

talldrseuss t1_iw278a2 wrote

Fucking freezing in the winter though. And sucks to get there if you don't have a car and don't live in the surrounding neighborhoods. Worked there for seven years. Loved it in the other three seasons, hated it during the winters

Davohk t1_iw2bx8o wrote

Winters are definitely brutal 🥶

I’m biased but John Jay literally has a mini park on top of the campus between NB and Haaren hall, our mock court overlooks it as well. It’s named the “Jay Walk,” a really cool spot that oversees a bunch

it's nice for that dreary part of brooklyn
and small quad has that old classic look,
but the rest is unremarkable. the west side
of Bedford used to be an open track & field
that's gone now, replaced by some modern
boring utilitarian building and sterile sqare.

VIK_96 t1_iw1i7b7 wrote

What are you talking about? They still have the track and field there.

the track and field area is behind the main building towards ocean ave side

I had my Junior High graduation there in 1979. But grew up in Flatbush. It is one of the hidden beautiful wonders of Brooklyn

Don’t forget good old UCLA , the University on the Corner of Lexington Avenue aka Hunter with those stunning walkways across lex and 68th street ;(

TheeRuckus t1_iw22iaw wrote

I remember my orientation at hunter they were trying to justify Central Park as “ you know kind of our campus in a way” lmao. I wasn’t mad at it tho, it was nice.

But yeah the Thomas hunter building was held together by duct tape and chewing gum when I went back in 07-11

Brooklyn College probably has the best campus out of all CUNY schools, but still not that beautiful, relatively speaking.

I used to linger there all the time, but now they want me to use my old email and prove vaccination. And finding my old email will suck.
