For everyone on here that says “I always carry pepper spray with me”, please don’t. It’s not going to help you, it’s just going to cause mass chaos and shut the trains down for hours.

That’s why I only carry garlic spray. You just never know when a vampire or an unseasoned gravy is going to jump you.

I prefer Funion spray. It smells nice and detracts the attached by getting their fingers all greasy.

Honestly, that might be enough to freak someone out and get them away from you.

Yeah who needs any protection? Just let these deranged addicts with a dozen priors terrorize you til the cops come and take them away so they can be released again.

You could have a taser. That won’t cause subway service to get shut down.

Much harder to conceal if you don't have a purse or like your self defense a zipped bag away, harder to learn to use and use effectively in a high stress situation, prohibitively expensive cartridges, makes a loud crackling noise that will scare everyone around you half out of their brains...

But sure, grab a taser instead...

I’ll gladly take angry calls from the MTA and NYPD rather than an ER doctor if either of my daughters legit need to use their cans of train stopper.

Thank you everyone for the upvotes. The tips of my thumbs have decided that engaging with this friendly individual any more is a waste of skin cells.

More likely is that one of your daughters will accidentally discharge their spray than use it on someone.

Pretty broad brush you’re painting with. Some people are smarter and more coordinated than others. Three years ago I would have agreed with you just on whether it’s warranted or not. There are a lot more crazy people on the streets and in the subways these days. What would you do for protection if you were a very pretty 20 yo female living in the Penn station area?

Lol you don’t even live here.

My parents never felt any need to treat me like a child when I moved here at 20.

Also, the people being attacked aren’t disproportionately “pretty” so don’t worry about how hot your daughter is.

Because the only place one might use it is on a busy subway car, of course
