There is a long island off the coast of New York and Connecticut. Politically all of that island is part of the state of New York. It includes four counties. From southwest to northeast they are Kings County, Queens County, Nassas and then Suffolk County. Kings County is Brooklyn, and Queens County is Queens: they are two of the five boroughs of New York City. Nassau and Suffolk are part of New York Stat but not part of New York City.
The other boroughs of NYC are Staten Island (Richmond County), Manhatta (New York County), and the Bronx (Bronx County). Only the Bronx is on the mainland.
NYC is the five boroughs, queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island. Manhattan is it’s own island. Staten Island is it’s own island. Bronx is the only one I’m not sure of but pretty sure they’re part of Yonkers.
That is incorrect. NYC is made up of 5 boroughs: Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Staten Island. Long Island is east of NYC. It is completely separate of NYC.
The Bronx and Yonkers may border each other if I am not mistaken but the Bronx is 100% part of NYC and Yonkers is not.
While both Queens and Brooklyn are ON long island, they are not considered part of long Island from anyone who lives in it.
You’re pretty sure The Bronx is part of Yonkers!?
What you're calling incorrect is actually correct.
I honestly don’t know where some of you people are getting your facts from but NYC Is made up of 5 boroughs and Eric Adams is our mayor. This is coming from someone who is born and raised in NYC all their lives.
Brooklyn and Queens are physically on the landmass known as Long Island
Long Island. I think you're conflating the cultural/political identity of Long Island with the landmass of Log Island. Brooklyn and Queens are located in the landmass of Long Island. From a cultural and political sense, Long Island refers to Nassau and Suffolk and excludes Queens and Brooklyn which are part of a larger NYC identity.
Edit: meant to reply to your other comment.
>Long Island, is a densely-populated island in the southeastern geographical area of the U.S. state of New York; it is also part of the New York metropolitan area. With over 8 million people, Long Island is the most populous island in the United States and the 18th-most populous in the world. The island begins at New York Harbor approximately 0. 35 miles (0.

Actually the entire island of Long Island has 4 counties. Kings county (Brooklyn), Queens county, Suffolk County and Nassau county. Of the 4, 2 are part of the 5 boroughs that make us NYC. When making a reference to Long Island they usually refer to Nassau and Suffolk county.
Geographically, Brooklyn and Queens are on Long Island even if culturally, what we think of as "Long Island" is Nassau and Suffolk counties.
Well I guess boarders mean nothing. If you told someone you were going to Long Island and took them to Brooklyn or Queens that would not be where they were asking to go. Now is queens physically attached to Long Island yes but they are not apart of the same city or government and have a different vibe from NYC.
Look at it on google or Apple Maps lol
Just remember that OPs coworker states that NYC is ON Long Island and it partially is on the landmass named Long Island. Long Island is an island that contains parts of NYC. That was the question.
But that was the question. Is New York City on Long Island? The answer is part of it.
The whole island is called Long Island … within the island of Long Island are a couple counties (Kings and Queens) that are incorporated as part of the City of New York
The Bronx is not a part of Yonkers. Yonkers does however have their own city tax and their own bus line that sometimes makes stops in the Bronx.
Technically. Like dog food is generally consumable by humans, but most don't consider it people food
So I live in Queens(my whole life) working in Long Island.
So NYC is the 5 boroughs. Long Island are suburbs outside of NYC with numerous towns. NYC is not on LI
Yea wasn’t sure if it was like how queens/ Brooklyn are on LI, just not familiar with the Bronx
I’m not familiar with the area, I know they neighbor each other but wasn’t sure if it was like how Brooklyn/ Queens is LI
I know Bronx is a borough of NYC but so are Queens/ Brooklyn but they’re on Long Island. So I wasn’t sure if Yonkers was like Long Island
Well thank you for sharing your deep knowledge of the topic at hand
Who's the dogfood in this scenario?
Thank you for being a smart ass

Partway correct. Long Island contains two of New York City's boroughs, Brooklyn and Queens. New York City also includes Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island. Long Island also contains other counties.
