NYC is the five boroughs, queens and Brooklyn are on Long Island. Manhattan is it’s own island. Staten Island is it’s own island. Bronx is the only one I’m not sure of but pretty sure they’re part of Yonkers.

The Bronx and Yonkers may border each other if I am not mistaken but the Bronx is 100% part of NYC and Yonkers is not.

Long Island. I think you're conflating the cultural/political identity of Long Island with the landmass of Log Island. Brooklyn and Queens are located in the landmass of Long Island. The Bronx is not a part of Yonkers. Yonkers does however have their own city tax and their own bus line that sometimes makes stops in the Bronx.
