Feinberg refused medical attention, but suffered pain to the face, cops said.”
But…we can’t defund the NYPD. Because clearly their response time to a woman being beaten in the middle of the day is superb.

It’s why Norway can have such light sentences and be safer for it, they have the other aspects of their society covered.
Think of it as a reallocation of resources instead of creating criminals and asking nypd to fix it

I keep seeing these arguments about how it can't be done in the US because the population is different or the population is diverse. Maybe we should consider other things like wealth distribution, basic necessities being met, Quality of education, healthcare etc. I mean if we can have the highest number of millionaires and billionaires we can have what they have too right?.

They get emergency Medicaid, which is essentially free healthcare. They can go to any emergency dept in the city and receive free care. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but I don’t see other country’s stepping up to the plate like we do.

Arrests are up 21% this year compared to last year for this current time period. The statistics that NYPD aren’t doing their jobs says otherwise.
AnacharsisIV t1_iub96vr wrote
Many if not all of those issues are nationwide; NYC does not have the ability to address those. Sure, let's say the mayor and council create some bill to allow homeless people to be forcibly institutionalized; that's also unconstitutional and would be stopped by a federal or state judge.

It's because you can skip 4 court appearances after getting your "please show up" ticket after attacking grandma before a bench warrant gets issued. That takes about a year of being issued multiple summons. Add the COVID court delays and you are seeing now what we would have started seeing a year after the law changes.

Grass8989 t1_iuba2f5 wrote
Emergency care is not denied, but if you don’t have insurance they WILL send you a bill, and you are responsible for the bill. The city is covering the cost for the migrants. That’s the difference.

Maybe 2021 was a low year for arrests, making the arrest rate in 2022 look better than it would have been in prior years.
After all, someone can claim that ridership on the MTA has skyrocketed by X percent in 2022. It would be true, but ridership is still down over years before the pandemic.
So statistics need to be questioned.

Guess what, they all have no income and qualify.
