A sick society filled with too many people who think they're allowed to do as they please.

awful... This happened to a friend in the east village last year, mid pandemic too.

These events will continue until nyc has another Goetz-like event.

I hope someone told her it’s just a “perception” of crime.

I thought crime on the subway was manufactured? I thought it was all just fear mongering to get votes?

“When Feinberg called 911 and cops did not immediately respond, she walked to a local precinct to report the assault.

Feinberg refused medical attention, but suffered pain to the face, cops said.”

But…we can’t defund the NYPD. Because clearly their response time to a woman being beaten in the middle of the day is superb.

It has to happen eventually, but cannot happen until we have the underlying structures to prevent mental decay and homelessness.

It’s why Norway can have such light sentences and be safer for it, they have the other aspects of their society covered.

Think of it as a reallocation of resources instead of creating criminals and asking nypd to fix it

I keep seeing these arguments about how it can't be done in the US because the population is different or the population is diverse. Maybe we should consider other things like wealth distribution, basic necessities being met, Quality of education, healthcare etc. I mean if we can have the highest number of millionaires and billionaires we can have what they have too right?.

They get emergency Medicaid, which is essentially free healthcare. They can go to any emergency dept in the city and receive free care. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but I don’t see other country’s stepping up to the plate like we do.

Many if not all of those issues are nationwide; NYC does not have the ability to address those. Sure, let's say the mayor and council create some bill to allow homeless people to be forcibly institutionalized; that's also unconstitutional and would be stopped by a federal or state judge.

It's because you can skip 4 court appearances after getting your "please show up" ticket after attacking grandma before a bench warrant gets issued. That takes about a year of being issued multiple summons. Add the COVID court delays and you are seeing now what we would have started seeing a year after the law changes.

Emergency care is not denied, but if you don’t have insurance they WILL send you a bill, and you are responsible for the bill. The city is covering the cost for the migrants. That’s the difference.

Maybe 2021 was a low year for arrests, making the arrest rate in 2022 look better than it would have been in prior years.

After all, someone can claim that ridership on the MTA has skyrocketed by X percent in 2022. It would be true, but ridership is still down over years before the pandemic.

So statistics need to be questioned.

“Permanent Residence Under Color of Law, or PRUCOL, is a public benefit eligibility status, as opposed to an immigration status, that allows certain groups of individuals, including those seeking asylum, to be eligible for full Medicaid coverage. Eligibility for Medicaid depends on a variety of other factors (income, state residence, etc.), which PRUCOL applicants for Medicaid must also meet to be found eligible.”

Guess what, they all have no income and qualify.

It gets written off by the hospital. Do you think it’s fair that someone can exploit our immigration system, get seen in An emergency department and pay nothing, when a tax pay citizen can lose their job, have a medical emergency and be stuck with thousands of dollars in medical bills?

"Certain groups of individuals" is literally in your quote. It's not available to anyone who shows up regardless of immigration status.

Tbh I'm not sure if you're blurring lines out of ignorance or an agenda.

Grass8989 t1_iubopca wrote

You clearly don’t know how Medicaid and emergency Medicaid works and how easy it is to get with no taxable income, regardless of immigration status, It’s fine. I shared that link because you stated that asylum seekers weren’t receiving free medical care which was false.

No, I said people don't get Medicaid without announcing themselves and falling into one of those "under cover of law" categories.

I'm still not sure if it's ignorance or an agenda, so kudos there at least.
