One can be very concerned about climate change without saying dumb stuff.

Eons. I would be worried about a super volcano or an asteroid (statistically we are overdue).

The record temperature for today is 60. Not that this isn't concerning. What can we do about it? Keep petitioning your elected officials to tax carbon emitting companies and encourage public transit over driving into work if possible. NYC should be a walking/riding City only. It's insane driving into and parking in Manhattan anyway.

If it’s this warm now, imagine summer. There’s gonna be so much strain on the power grid, I deff think there’s going to be another major blackout either in this region, and / or other parts of the US in the coming years.

And yes, people die from extreme heat (and other extreme weather conditions)

It's not that all of the city will be underwater all of the time, but we'll be seeing more massive storms that knock out large areas of lower Manhattan like with Hurricane Sandy. It's going to get worse, and it's not going to get better until humans stop emitting so much damn carbon.

none. I don't get these people who have so much stress , lose sleep, or even take SSRIs because of climate change.

You can start by writing or calling your representatives and telling them that you strongly believe for-hire vehicles should be subject to the full congestion fee on every trip into or out of the congestion zone.

Please remember to check on the sick and elder during extreme heat waves such as today.

Yea. There's also a very good chance we (or our nascent AI overlords) blow ourselves to smithereens long before the climate becomes a major issue. It almost happened last year. If Putin had used a nuclear weapon in the Ukraine it's curtains for all of us.

I just wish all the deniers would promptly move to Florida and Texas, so the rest of us can deal with the massive storms while they try to figure out what 120F summers are like.

This happens every few years. I remember in 2012 Presidents’ Day weekend was 80 degrees. It’s an unusual weather pattern.

Climate change is real but this makes as much sense as when my uncle complains about having to “shovel all this global warming off my driveway”

I just flew back from tropical Colombia last night and was like 'wtf how is it so warm at 10pm in February?'

People making huge generalizations off an observation is a pet peeve of mine. My memory tells me having a warm day in February is rather common. But my memory is just as flawed as OP. You know what is less flawed? Data.

I searched for NYC weather data in a downloadable format. I found such at: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov

I couldn't find central park. But JFK should serve the task. I asked for 1980 to 2022. They gave me 1980 to 2007. 28 years is still a decent set of data.

Well, in February from 1980 to 2007, 28 years, 14 of those years had a day at or above 58 degrees. That means 50% of February have a 58 degree day. This is completely normal.

Just for fun, the warmest day in February was 71 degrees in 1997. The coldest warmest day was 1986 at 49 degrees.

And no, its not getting more frequent during the data set. Fairly even. Longest strech of years with a 58 or above was 1988 to 1992. Longest stretch without a day at or above 58 was 1999 to 2001
