MNR delivered 0.79 vehicle-hours per vehicle maintenance employee hour worked. If LIRR matched MNR on both metrics, the improvements would allow staffing reductions of 13 percent in vehicle operations and 39 percent in vehicle maintenance. Total hours worked at LIRR would decline by about 2.3 million hours without reducing service. These reductions would save up to $242 million annually by 2024, and would allow a headcount reduction of 1,114.13
