So he fell up?

No, climbed up something and fell down. There's lots of places in Death Valley you can fall. I like exploring the canyons, but my explorations typically end at an obstacle I'm not willing to consider but some people do.

Yeah, it was just a thought, being at the lowest elevation of the non submerged surface. Just making light of heavy tidings, nothing more.

Death Valley is a lot more than just Badwater Basin. You're not going to fall at Badwater, but there a lot of canyons heading away from the valley floor--and most have substantial obstacles in the form of dryfalls.

Reminds me of Queens Boulevard in NYC. They would refer to it as the "Highway of Death". Every couple of weeks the local news would report that someone died while crossing Queens Boulevard, the Highway of Death.

ProTip: Avoid DV in midsummer, hey? And don't stroll without a water supply. Mea culpa: I once lived near a Joshua Tree NP entrance. I have survived by staying hydrated. Carry more than juicy fruits, hey?

Park service pretty regularly has to rescue (or search for the bodies of) Europeans who go “oh, a trip to the desert? I shall bring sandwiches and a few beers, should just be a simple stroll to the next town…”

I worked for a co-op ambulance service near Joshua Tree NP and regularly hauled-out incautious folks, both clueless tourists, and military guys with delusions of immortality. We always brought-em out alive, at least on my shifts -- I never lost any. Not even Europeans.
