If they overthrew the Shah, why can’t they overthrow the government wingnuts they have now?

What's even more fucked up is that in order to leave the country she was forced to give the Iranian Climbing Association power of attorney to sell her family's property (as well as a $35,000 bond) in order to ensure she came back to Iran after competition!

So those fuckers wait until she gets on the plane, and then they destroy the very collateral they held over her head to return to that shithole!

What a bunch of coward fucks, pisses me off how cruel they are. Luckily the cruel always turn on their own, and they are the biggest fucking cry babies when their time comes.

they are saying that the Islamist's overthrew the Shah when the Shah was powerful. Now the Islamist's are powerful but the citizens still have the ability to overthrow the government, just like the Shah was overthrown.....

The Iranian revolution was extremly popular with a broad consensus of Nationalists, Leftists and Islamists leading, organising and destroying the West's puppet. (Of course the Left was then also destroyed by the Islamists it heped put into power).

The current movement doesn't have Islamists or most Nationalists which is a massive chunk of the Iranian people. They can't flip the loyalty of the repressive state apparatus or overcome it due to Iran's investment in thugs, equipment and secret service.

TLDR: Modern revolution is more difficult and this revolt is less popular amongst the Iranian people.

I don't respect the culture the Iranian regime is violently imposing on it's people, especially women and LGBT+ people. It's disgusting, it's backwards, and it shouldn't exist. Women are literally beaten to death for showing their hair in public. That's not a culture anyone should be respecting.

Been living under a rock aint cha?

Qatar got critized as a choice to host the World cup because... They are a fucking shit hole nation with some of the worst human rights.

Qatars defense was that slavery, legal rape, vaginal mutilation, etc are all apart of their culture so it's okay for them to do it.

I'm Canadian, following their logic I should be allowed to kill natives. Its our culture

Iran following on Israel's footsteps. Demolishing people's homes because of politics is kind of their thing.

They also had help that they could rely on. They look around and see what happened when the Afghans tried to get rid of the Taliban, what happened when the Syrians tried to get rid of alAssad, what happened when the Kurds tried to get out - they don't trust their support, and they can't do it without support.

Apparently, from the Iranian comments here, the population no longer has the will or means to overthrow their all powerful government regime. They are doomed forever to just be sheeple and go the way of Russians. Oh well, time to move on. Nothing to see here.

I do feel like these are the fruits of cultural relativism. The idea that because there is a custom in a place it should be respected by default.

If Elnaz was expecting literally anything other than extreme prejudice and retaliation for breaking protocol then she’s a fool.

I hate to keep repeating this, but when you’re subject to certain rules in a country A, then go abroad and break those rules and publicly criticize country A, then you should sure as heck not be on the return flight to country A. Also, nothing that matters to you in the least, in any way or form, should be in country A.

There is massive food poisoning reported in the last week at three notable universities. Coincidence? Absolutely not, when you consider that it’s precisely those university students who have been the most vocal proponents of freedom democracy.
