The Iranian revolution was extremly popular with a broad consensus of Nationalists, Leftists and Islamists leading, organising and destroying the West's puppet. (Of course the Left was then also destroyed by the Islamists it heped put into power).

The current movement doesn't have Islamists or most Nationalists which is a massive chunk of the Iranian people. They can't flip the loyalty of the repressive state apparatus or overcome it due to Iran's investment in thugs, equipment and secret service.

TLDR: Modern revolution is more difficult and this revolt is less popular amongst the Iranian people.
