If they overthrew the Shah, why can’t they overthrow the government wingnuts they have now?

The Iranian revolution was extremly popular with a broad consensus of Nationalists, Leftists and Islamists leading, organising and destroying the West's puppet. (Of course the Left was then also destroyed by the Islamists it heped put into power).

The current movement doesn't have Islamists or most Nationalists which is a massive chunk of the Iranian people. They can't flip the loyalty of the repressive state apparatus or overcome it due to Iran's investment in thugs, equipment and secret service.

TLDR: Modern revolution is more difficult and this revolt is less popular amongst the Iranian people.

You think the Islamic regime would let them? They’re the ones who overthrew the shah and don’t allow the strategy against them

Well, they managed to overthrow the Shah. He wasn’t a lightweight at controlling the population.

With “they” you mean the Islamists that became the current regime. “They” are not going to do it again because they’re in power.

they are saying that the Islamist's overthrew the Shah when the Shah was powerful. Now the Islamist's are powerful but the citizens still have the ability to overthrow the government, just like the Shah was overthrown.....

Apparently, from the Iranian comments here, the population no longer has the will or means to overthrow their all powerful government regime. They are doomed forever to just be sheeple and go the way of Russians. Oh well, time to move on. Nothing to see here.

They also had help that they could rely on. They look around and see what happened when the Afghans tried to get rid of the Taliban, what happened when the Syrians tried to get rid of alAssad, what happened when the Kurds tried to get out - they don't trust their support, and they can't do it without support.

Because the Shah did not kill his own people mercilessly like the Mullahs. He left his own country peacefully and exiled himself. If only we could do the same now

I’m well familiar with SAVAK lol, they didn’t shoot little children and protestors in the streets. Don’t talk about shit you only know from a wiki article

Sounds like you have some rose coloured glasses. Shah was a murdering fuck. But he was smart enough to get out when he did. Let's see if the latest murdering fucks are also smart.

Well, you've got to factor in demographics and who has what to lose. If you are a religious man in Iran, overthrowing the current government will be a good way to screw yourself over.

It takes time to rally for that change. I could see it happening in the next 5 years.

Pretty sure the CIA also ruined my outdoor couch when my dog got accidentally locked in our sunroom.
