Omg, I can only imagine the size of the returned toddler fee. I bet they really stick it to you. You know how they are......

Arrest that company for kidnapping

Edit: This is intended to be a joke reference to the fact that car rental companies are having their customers arrested for auto theft when really they're just renting the cars and haven't returned them yet

Yes, but did he note 'no toddler' in the backseat when he picked it up? Maybe it was left earlier. I mean people leave those kids all over the place.

The kid's lucky Hertz didn't have him arrested for auto theft.

Lucky its not summer. Was still 80 degrees, parking lot was unshaded and rental company employees only noticed 45 minutes after car was returned.

And I imagine the customer argued that it was exactly like that when he picked up the car.

This is exactly how kids die in cars

They get forgotten about

When I reading this I noticed the grandfather told the mother he left the granddaughter at his house to drop off the vehicle…so my question is, did he run other errands during the day and leave her in the car more then once? Or did he just forget he loaded a toddler into the rental right before the drop off?

Loading a toddler into vehicle takes quite a bit of effort and if he ever looked in his rear view mirror for a second or checked the rental for any personal belongings he would have seen her. Like, HOW DID HE MISS THAT? Wasn’t she in a car seat? Was it his car seat? Like I have so many questions here.

80 degrees out. 45 minutes. Thank almighty science they found her when they did....just a bit longer and baby would have been toast.

I may offer a third possibility since I caught my 2 year old did it several times…grandpa left the car back door open and the kid crawled right in.

I also caught my kid crawled under the car too after playing hide and seek around it…that was really scary.

Sometimes curious couples will add a toddler to their rental just to see what it would be like…

Let’s say the kid did crawl in the back seat without him noticing….How would he not notice a toddler moving around in the back seat unrestrained while he was driving? Or not hear the kid making noise? Or not have seen her in his rear view mirror in the back seat? My oldest nephew is 3 and believe me even when he’s asleep there’s no mistaking there’s a child in the car.

If this person is this unobservant, they shouldn’t be allowed to be left alone by themselves, let alone drive a motor vehicle.
