Okay, I may have misread the article. I do think journalist transparency is a good thing, but can see how this can have its own set of problems

I guess this makes some degree of sense. It's a finance disclosure statement for lobbyist oversight. Honestly it might be for the best if people writing on politician have to disclose if they are being paid by another political entity
