I think the problem of burning the painting is that you didn't use salt. Salt is used in many different factors to ward away evil spirits. Holy water is actually where salt has been blessed and mixed into water then blessed again.

If you choose to keep the painting, get a picture frame with enough room that you can place a line of salt in. Or other methods I bet you could figure out
