Oh wow. I didn't think it works this way! Do they have to stay away from all meat (that's why op is eating just vegan substitutions) or just human meat?

Human meat makes one a Wendigo, any flesh eating makes the hunger insatiable. OP finding the fake meat allowed them to live as a human with the hunger kept at bay.
