It doesn't necessarily mean it's the right thing to do, I never said that, all I said was that it would be the better choice

Looking at the mc's situation, it doesn't seem like there are many good choices to make anyways

Only the first one that got to a hospital and convinced them that he was the original dad would have health insurance, though. It's probably better for them if they languish in their cells for a little while longer and actually have access to medical care. Because we live in a particularly stupid dystopia.
