It could also be a greeting. In my culture it’s common to greet people with similar blessings, usually if it’s someone you respect (an elder, or well educated person) or someone who you’re getting something from (shopkeeper, person you’re asking for help, religious authority, psychic,ect.)

If vampire rules also apply to the errand boy trying to pick Kirby up then the next best bet is to be nice and make Kirby’s “owner” want to give him up. IE the friendly yet outdated blessing paired with a modern lost dog poster delivered by a past due delivery boy. Which wouldn’t be particularly threatening in the eyes of whatever death centric entity sent it. To say that a death god would be out of touch with human sensibilities isn’t a far stretch considering that the last time one of them visited humanity was probably when reanimated corpses and Zeus’s love children were the norm.
