This spring, Whitehead allegedly attempted to convince a businessman to loan him about $500,000 and grant him a stake in real estate transactions in exchange for obtaining “favorable actions by the New York City government” that would make them “millions” – something the pastor knew he could not obtain, the indictment says. Earlier this year, he also allegedly used “threats of force” against that same businessman to extort $5,000 from him.

“As we allege today, Lamor Whitehead abused the trust placed in him by a parishioner, bullied a businessman for $5,000, then tried to defraud him of far more than that, and lied to federal agents,”

As the pastor of Leaders of Tomorrow International Ministry, Whitehead allegedly defrauded one of his parishioners out of about $90,000 from her retirement savings over the course of at least 14 months beginning around April 2020, according to the indictment. The document said Whitehead told the parishioner he would use her money to help her buy a home and invest the rest of the money, but instead used it “to purchase thousands of dollars of luxury goods and clothing” and “for his own purposes.”Whitehead never helped her buy a home, the court document says, and never returned her money despite her request.

Seeing the wealth of religious figures always reminds me of a saying jesus supposedly said - "it's harder for a rich man to get through the gates of heaven than it is for a fully laden camel to get through the eye of a needle"

From what I remember that was In a very early version of the bible but was taken out because rich people could not possibly believe for a moment that they would not he allowed into heaven.

I always whether these prosperity preachers reach out and help their congregation, and if so how much. I’m reminded of when that Hurricane hit their cities Preacher’s Jesse Duplantis and Joel Osteen were conspicuously absent in reaching out and helping others.

At least he’s got a little shame. Olsteen is so slimes but once upon a time I was a new mom single and living in a public housing apartment and for some reason his speaking seemed to hit something in me. Took me a few weeks of watching and listening to notice what was missing and turn it off. I’m a smart person but I was lonely broke and isolated. I imagine he gets to vulnerable people like that.

“But my guy was a good one who didn’t fiddle with kids!” Is a refutation. ( and also anecdotal compared to the well known statistics and abuses performed by the professionally religious )

The next time you call someone “unhinged” for disliking people who’s entire job being about morality, failing in criminal and horrific ways, actually learn how to respond.

Cos turns out, people are allowed to be angry at child rape by professional moralists, and all their other criminal activities.

He's stridentently opposed to rape and abuse. He testifies in court at the state house every year in favor of a woman's right to choose.

And he helps black Americans not lose their homes by doing mission work, rebuilding their homes free of charge before they are condemned.

What have you done to help the world lately? Probably a lot less than my pastor has done.

Of course he’s against sexual abuse. Find me a pastor, a priest, that says otherwise. Until they’re found out. They’re in a profession literally about ethics and morality, yet statistics show they’re generally worse than the general population at horrific acts.

No amount of spin or anecdotes changes the fact organized religion is among the worst perpetrators of what they allegedly preach against.

It’s not my job to be a moralist, I, like all humans, have plenty of failings. The difference is I don’t tell people how they should live. I’m not that arrogant.

It’s just possible, a pro civil rights preacher can also do nefarious things, and grift their followers as they preach morality…

Analogy: Some teachers unfortunately abuse their students. Does that make every single teacher a statuarory rapist? In your big brain, apparently it does. Some men rape women.
