Hopefully whoever is terrorizing students, teachers, and staff with these "hoax" reports is caught and punished severely.

I remember post-9/11 there was all that nonsense about taking preventative measures "or the terrorists win" and now we're just letting them run up the score.

We're at the point that the only thing we can do is put the school on lockdown and live in fear.

Was just about to say this.

I'm honestly surprised this hasn't happened before; but willing to bet that since it's clear that the US has no intention of addressing the problem it will probably be pretty common for bad actors outside the US will engage in this tactic.

Now that bad actors in foreign countries know that the US doesn't give a fuck about children being slaughtered, they'll engage in these sorts of hoaxes to disrupt the lives of citizens and create situations where people become complacent to the threats that allow more mass shootings to happen.

Yeah it's been happening all this school year too. People keep making jokes about it being kids but there's more to it.

Hundreds of calls to various schools in Ohio for example, from one number in Africa where a heavily accented voices calls in an active shooting threat.

Same thing happened in Michigan, then the calls stopped. After awhile they resumed with shooting sounds in the background.

This is statewide, not just in the capital region. Calls all came around the same time across New York, so it was a coordinated effort as seen recently in other states. This is a massive waste of time and resources, and an effective form of cyber-terrorism that is growing in popularity lately. I would not be surprised if there is a larger foreign involvement at play, considering how widespread these false reports have been.

There's also been a string of false bomb threats. My worry is that this isn't just people being disruptive assholes, but an attempt to create a "cried wolf" situation, where the police will delay if an actual shooting is reported.
